Castillan auditors of the Roman Rota in the 16th and 17th centuries
Elfie Guyau
This presentation focuses on the careers of the auditors of the Roman Rota named on behalf of Castille. Some of these individuals are renown legal specialists or clerics. Be that as it may, the work produced on their lives and careers rarely highlights their role in the Roma court. This paper offers to consider the commonalities in the careers of the Castilian auditors, before and after their work in the Roman Rota. It will display preliminary results on the social and intellectual profiles of these men and question their specificities amongst the auditors of the court. By doing so, this paper wishes to showcase how future research on the Castilian auditors can offer new perspectives on the legal relationship between Rome and the King of Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries.
