The scientific archives

The archaeological service supports field operations carried out within the framework of the research programmes of the École française de Rome (EFR). It offers teams the possibility to avail themselves of the assistance of qualified staff (surveys, drawing, excavation, studies) and of material means (computer programmes, topography, photography). These facilities are completed by an archiving service which ensures the management and preservation of the graphic, photographic and textual documentation of the operations.

Thus since 1982, this service has preserved the scientific archives produced by the excavation teams on sites piloted by the EFR. About 86 000 negatives, 24 000 slides and more than 3 000 graphic documents (plans and drawings of objects) are held in them.
