Founded in 1875, the École française de Rome is a public scientific, cultural and professional establishment, placed under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research.
The École’s main mission is research and research training in the fields of archaeology, history and other human and social sciences, from prehistory to the present day. Its main field of research covers an area comprising Rome, Italy, the Maghreb and the countries of South-East Europe close to the Adriatic Sea.
The École française welcomes scientific members every year who devote themselves to research work in the fields relevant to the establishment, in history, archaeology and social sciences, divided into three sections:
- le Middle Age
- Modern and Contemporary periods.
