International conference of the ERC project HornEast (Horn & Crescent. Connections, Mobility and Exchange between the Horn of Africa and the Middle East in the Middle Ages)

This project offers the first comprehensive study of medieval connections between the Horn of Africa and the Middle East in both Christian and Islamic contexts.

This project has received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement n° 726206.

On the occasion of the symposium, a photographic exhibition will be open to the public on 24 may 2023, at 2.00 PM at the École française de Rome gallery (piazza Navona, 62):

Islam in Enderta. Two Years of Archaeological Survey and Excavations in Eastern Tigray, Ethiopia

This exhibition presents the work of the European Research Council  (ERC) project HornEast in northern Ethiopia. Photographs and thematic panels explored the remains of the medieval Islamic past in a region regarded as the cradle of Ethiopian Christianity. It will be open and open until 24 July 2023.
